Statement of Wu Shuang
Chinese Opera may be a bit strange to the people of late 80’s; we are more receptive to rock and pop music. In the first instance I draw the character of Chinese Opera, due to their elegant costumes, character roles, touching story and elaborate make-up designs portray. And I found it is a good way to convey our Eastern Culture.
It seem all the people also have this experience in their childhood: look at the sky in a trance, watching the different shapes of cloud, then allow the fancy to run wild.... I'm enjoying in this, it can encourage my inspiration of Art.
Clouds, is the important element for my Art, so as wind, a air that is moving and that it can move clouds, just like my life. I'm living and working in Beijing CBD global business center, a noisy but prosperous city, people work for exist but lost their real life, I would like to perform a peaceful place for taking refuge just like Shangri-la, is however in Shangri-la also has anxiety, disquiet, conflict and battle...

They call us in name "late 80's”; it is because we were born in a turbulent period, with institutional transformation, social change, and alternate times.. etc, all is influencing our life. We often feel anxiety, confused, worry.. The stress come from tuition, domicile and medical, make us in gasps. We cannot catch the rhythm of such reformed Society.
We have so much stirring of emotion about our society changes; we would like to represent our feeling in painting. Compare with our predecessor, most of them have a stable job and income, so they can do their own art absorbedly, but for us – Group of "late 80's", we are confused, how to choose the right way between the real world and our dream?
I have ever lost and concerned at this material world, but I will insist my faith in my Art, Art is not only my attitude toward life but my faith.

Traditional & Contemporary
by Biska
All arts of the period are diagrammatic with the style design that China's contemporary art imitates in more than 20 short years, passes by western experience several centuries repeatedlies. From simple imitation to thinking independently how to construct the style system with characteristic of Chinese. And no longer cater to the western value system and judge the standard simply.
Influenced by more and more western ideology, as the artist after 80's, always can't help falling into the tragedy of a kind of imitation destiny again.
And the artworks of Wu Shuang can get rid of the western style's constraint, because it is already very difficult to invent some new visual effects on the shelf today. He mostly regards such a material of canvas as a kind of tool, regards intelligence and aesthetics temperament and interest of the east as the important element displayed and dissolves into his artworks. For example such a symbol of " cloud " is enclosed in China's traditional meaning with the meaning of having good luck, so call " the auspicious cloud ". Often present the image of the military airplane and scene of fighting in his artworks. This is portrayal of their heart. after born in 80's and face the social change, system make the transition, era replace. It is anxious and uneasy and uncertain to everything to make this generation under this kind of environment.
Works of Wu Shuang employ one fantastic tactics, build different interesting things of space-time out a kind of brand-new linguistic context together. His works are always the more demonstrating " story " and narrating. Let the audience of the different culture background have their own imagination's space. So names of his works are mostly abstract, fuzzy.
His works is always impressive. Tasting his works carefully, you can experience that he has a word of "Painting" willing to say, read his works, you can experience his sincerity to art, through his works, you will be subdued by his consummate painting skill. In constant exploration,Wu Shuang found his own style.
